A native to Dallas, Joanna, spent most of her professional career owning and operating businesses in the Irving area. After earning her BBA from Texas A&M University, she began her career in the multi-family/apartment industry with the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas. Guided by an incredible mentor, Joanna was empowered to learn and grow in an environment where she did not fear failure or repercussions. This nurturing foundation was crucial, as it not only boosted her confidence but also set her on the path to thrive in the multi-family industry as an entrepreneur.
As Joanna will share, entrepreneurship is both immensely rewarding AND incredibly challenging; it is not for the faint of heart. It demands a relentless and unwavering commitment, along with the tenacity to build a business from absolutely nothing into something great. This journey often requires setting aside pride and ego, surrounding oneself with a team of individuals who are not only smarter but also share the same passion and dedication to excellence. It involves taking calculated risks and possessing the courage to try, fail, and try again until success is achieved. Moreover, building a reputation of trust and transparency is paramount. Embracing feedback and accepting responsibility when mistakes or poor decisions occur are essential components of this path.
This approach has been Joanna’s mantra, leading her to build, operate, and sell three successful companies: a customer feedback company (Ellis Partners in Management Solutions), an e-learning and policy and procedure company (Edge2Learn), and a leasing and property management company (Ellis Property Management Services). Joanna’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of having a strong, supportive team. Her experience underscores the fact that success in entrepreneurship comes from a combination of dedication, adaptability, and a willingness to learn from both successes and failures.
On a personal note, Joanna is a proud mother to two Millennial sons who have followed in her entrepreneurial footsteps and are making their mark in the real estate business. Also, Joanna enjoys walking her adorable mini-Golden doodle, Yogi and exploring new travel destinations. In addition to her family and travel, Joanna is deeply committed to her health and fitness. She is an active member of The Nelson Sports Club, where she not only prioritizes her well-being but also enjoys meeting new people and building meaningful relationships. She previously served on the social committee and currently serves as the chairperson of the fitness committees at the club, contributing her time and energy to improving member experience.
Joanna is thrilled to join the Irving Schools Foundation team. She is passionate about giving back to the community that has played such an important role in her life. Joanna is eager to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Irving students.

A longtime Irving ISD leader, Dr. Galindo has dedicated her career to helping school systems move from vision to action through strategic planning, organizational alignment, research, accountability and community-centered leadership. Over the past several years, she has worked alongside students, teachers, staff, families, community members and the Board of Trustees to support districtwide initiatives focused on evaluating programs and practices, strengthening systems and building a future-ready Irving ISD.
A proud first-generation college graduate and daughter of Mexican-American immigrants, Dr. Galindo’s story is deeply rooted in resilience, hard work and the transformative power of public education. Those experiences shaped not only who she became, but how she leads. She believes schools have the power to change the trajectory of lives, families and entire communities when people feel seen, supported, challenged and inspired to grow.
Dr. Galindo brings more than 16 years of experience in public education, research, strategic planning, organizational leadership and systems transformation. Throughout her career, she has led complex district initiatives involving school improvement, demographic and enrollment planning, accountability systems, program evaluation, performance management, organizational redesign, stakeholder engagement and long-range strategic planning. She is widely recognized for her ability to bring people together, navigate complexity with clarity and help organizations align around a shared purpose focused on students.
Before being named Lone Finalist for Superintendent, Dr. Galindo served as Irving ISD’s Chief of Staff, where she worked closely with district leadership to support strategic planning, organizational alignment, district improvement efforts and continuous improvement initiatives across the district. Prior to her work in Irving ISD, she served North East ISD in San Antonio for more than eight years in research, planning and leadership roles focused on data-informed decision making, strategic planning, accountability, enrollment forecasting and organizational effectiveness. Her leadership experience also includes serving as Senior Executive of Performance Outcomes and Executive Director of Planning, Evaluation and Research in Irving ISD.
Dr. Galindo holds a Ph.D. in Applied Demography from the University of Texas at San Antonio, along with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Sociology from Texas State University. In addition to her district leadership experience, Dr. Galindo taught graduate-level research methods courses at both Trinity University and the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she focused on empowering future educational leaders to think critically, solve problems and apply research to real-world challenges.
Dr. Galindo believes leadership is not about doing things to people, but building solutions with people. She is passionate about fostering cultures rooted in trust, collaboration, accountability, innovation and authentic stakeholder voice. Her leadership philosophy centers on listening deeply, leading with humility and creating the conditions for students, staff and communities to thrive together.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Galindo enjoys reading, wellness, leadership development and spending time with family. She is passionate about personal growth, physical and mental wellness, and helping others recognize their own potential. She is also proud to stand alongside her husband, a retired Army Captain and veteran with 23 years of military service, whose example of discipline, humility, sacrifice and service continues to inspire her leadership journey.
Dr. Galindo’s personal purpose statement reflects the heart of her leadership: “With my gifts of solving problems, building relationships and bringing people together, I am here to help facilitate meaningful change for the benefit of students, families and those dedicated to serving them.”

How do I claim my scholarship?
Please visit our scholarship page to learn more about this process. Note that you must request fund disbursement at least three weeks prior to the payment due date, otherwise your payment will be late. It is the student’s responsibility to claim scholarships each semester.
What documents/information will I need in order to claim my scholarship?
You will need an invoice from your school that shows a balance due (we cannot pay from a zero or negative balance), your class schedule, your student and university ID numbers, your GPA (unless you’re a first-semester student), and the payment address for your school.
What is an endowed scholarship?
When donors endow an ISF scholarship, the gift is invested and a portion of the earnings is used for the scholarship. The scholarship is available into perpetuity because the principal is not spent.
Can I make pledge payments to my endowed scholarship?
Yes. A period of up to 4 years past the initial donation is allowable to fund your scholarship.
How will I know who is awarded the endowed scholarship I establish?
All scholarship patrons are invited to attend the annual Breakfast with the Stars event each spring, when we recognize our scholarship winners. Your student and her/his parents, if they are available, will join you at your table. In the event you or your student are not able to attend the awards ceremony, we will be delighted to set up a call to tell you about your scholarship recipient, or to forward you information about your student via email.
How do I make an additional gift to my existing scholarship?
You can either increase the amount of the scholarship awarded in a particular year, or you may add to the principal amount of the endowed scholarship. Please contact us at 972.600-5018 or at [email protected] to make the arrangements.
Will I be involved with the selection of the scholarship awardee?
When you establish the endowed scholarship, you will be asked to specify criteria by which the scholarship recipient is selected. We can assist you in outlining that criteria for the awarding of the scholarship so that it reflects your vision in terms of what you want the scholarship to accomplish.
When are applications for grants due?
Grants for EEGs (Employee Enrichment Grants) are due on the 10th of each month. Spark Tank (teaching grants) applications are accepted at any time. Note that review panels for each program do not meet in July. All grant applicants are encouraged to submit applications and proposals at least two months in advance of the registration fee due date or the launch of your program —in other words, two months before you need the money in hand.
