Student and Employee Scholarships
Since 2011, Irving Schools Foundation has awarded more than $2,875,975 in college and continuing education scholarships to more than 1,415 Irving ISD seniors and district employees—and counting! In fact, the ISF Scholarship Program is at the heart of our work to elevate Irving ISD students and teachers, along with signature ISF programs like Food for Thought and Spark Tank.
The immediate and long-term benefit of the ISF scholarship program is remarkable—many students who have won scholarships have gone on to impressive academic and professional careers; indeed, it’s safe to say that scores of future leaders in the areas of business, health care, technology, civics, and the arts are among our awardees each year. In many cases, the students selected for awards are the first in their families to attend college, and a high percentage of awardees come from significantly disadvantaged backgrounds.
To give you an idea of the annual impact of our scholarship program: In 2020 alone, we distributed nearly 230 scholarships worth approximately $379,000 to students at all five Irving ISD high schools, as well as to a half dozen Irving ISD employees seeking to further their education and training.
How the Scholarship Program Works:Applications typically open up after the Thanksgiving holiday and close when the semester ends in December. Notifications typically go out in January, and recipients are recognized at our “Breakfast With the Stars” ceremony, an Irving Schools Foundation signature event, each spring (usually in April). Scholarships are endowed in honor or memory of individuals with strong ties to Irving ISD or via sponsorships from corporate or community/civic organizations. Criteria for consideration usually centers around need, academic or extra-curricular achievement, community service, or aspirations to pursue study in a particular career field.
