2021 ISF Scholarship Recipients

RECIPIENT Asgd Elbosiry

ASGD ELBOSIRY

BAYLOR MEDICAL CENTER AT IRVING SCHOLARSHIP
Asgd will be attending the University of North Texas to receive a dual degree in Biochemistry and International Business. Afterward, she will be applying to the University of Houston’s College of Pharmacy. Her career goal is to serve the community and create an internationally known pharmacy company. Asgd would also like to create medicine that will cure cancer, or at least treat its symptoms without the extreme side effects of traditional cancer treatments. She is continually inspired by her grandmother, who continues to strive over adversity. As a student at Singley Academy, Asgd has had the pleasure of Interning at Baylor Scott and White Hospital and Walgreens Pharmacy. She has also volunteered as a teacher's aide at the Irving Islamic Center’s Sunday School. Asgd has enjoyed competing in HOSA competitions, being a member of BPA and leading the Muslim Student Association at Singley Academy.

John Posada

NISSAN NORTH AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP
John plans to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a minor in computer science. After that, he hopes to attend a graduate school for a Master’s degree in astronautics, as his passion in life is space. Throughout his time at college, John hopes to continue a research project he started in his junior year AP Research course at Singley Academy, researching mechanisms for water purification on Mars. At school, he’s active in the Homeland Security specialty, competing with his Explorers team and working to organize a campus disaster drill with his classmates. Outside of school, he is a part of the Civil Air Patrol, where he is currently focused on studying for a remote pilot’s certificate and eventually a private pilot’s license. A National AP Scholar and AP Capstone Diploma recipient, John excels academically, notably in all areas STEM, but he has a particular fondness for pure mathematics - a subject he wishes to study throughout his life, if only for the fun of it. He draws inspiration from people who have worked for and in space, especially from past and present cosmonauts and astronauts who have paved the way for space exploration today. In the future, he hopes to follow in their footsteps and become an astronaut to achieve his dreams of space colonization by putting humans comfortably on Mars and planets beyond.

ELIZABETH FRAGA

HIPPY ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP
After graduation, Elizabeth plans to attend North Lake College and then transfer to Houston Baptist University following the Pre-Med road to receive a major in Biochemistry Molecular Biology and a Minor in Psychology. Afterwards, she will apply to UT Southwestern Medical School to become a Cardiovascular Surgeon. Throughout her high school years, she has been a member of UIL Science, UIL Prose and Poetry, Health Occupations Students of America, National Technical Honor Society, and Destination Imagination. She has also been part of extracurricular activities such as band, softball, and volleyball. Elizabeth has volunteered for The Salvation Army at making Angel Trees, and Bell Ringing during the holiday season. She assists with the HIPPY program, Home Instructors for Parents of Preschoolers Youngsters, for parent meetings, and the HIPPY graduation. Her main inspiration is her family. They are her role models. She is amazed by how many obstacles her family has overcome especially her parents for migrating to the United States to give her and her siblings a better future. Elizabeth wants to continue growing as a person and a professional.

ACHU SARA ZACHARIAH

JACK E. SINGLEY SCHOLARSHIP
Achu Sara Zachariah plans to go North Lake College and pursue her Associates Degree in Accounting and Finance. After that, she hopes to attend a 4-year university and complete a bachelor's, then later obtain her Masters. Achu Sara’s father was an accountant and It is her dream to follow in his footsteps. She loves to do community service and is passionate about art, but her main ambition has always been to become an accountant. She hopes that her pursuit of advanced education provides her more skills, opportunities, and accomplishments in life.

JOY AND RALPH ELLIS SCHOLARSHIP FOR ATHLETES
Gregorio will be attending Texas Wesleyan University in the fall to pursue a Career in Education while specializing in Kinesiology. As a freshman, Gregorio earned the opportunity to start on the varsity baseball team at Nimitz High School which led him to play in the 2017 playoff series. Gregorio has received accolades such as Team Captain and First Team All-District Designated Hitter. Gregorio has been inspired by exceptional coaches throughout the years and would like to pass on his experiences and knowledge to a younger generation. Gregorio has been supported by his parents and two loving brothers who he credits for his successes and accomplishments.

IRVING LAS COLINAS ROTARY NIMITZ HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP
Alan is the graduating Nimitz class of 2020 valedictorian. He is planning on attending Texas A&M University to pursue an undergraduate degree in interdisciplinary engineering and film as well as a minor in psychology. He wishes to become a doctor specializing in technology in the future. At Nimitz, Alan is the captain of the Academic Decathlon team and has been a member for 3 years. He has also competed in UIL Academics for 2 years. Alan is a National AP Scholar and National Merit Semifinalist. He is president of the National Honor Society at Nimitz, president of Mu Alpha Theta at Nimitz, and was an officer for Human Rights Society. Alan has always had a passion for learning, which he relies on in his academic life. He has accumulated over 300 hours of community service throughout high school from regularly volunteering at his church. Alan would love to become a doctor that specializes in technology because it will allow him to help people, contribute to scientific research, and have a respectful career all in one.
