Scholarships Awarded in 2026
Scholarships are endowed in honor or memory of individuals with strong ties to Irving ISD or via sponsorships from corporate or community/civic organizations. Criteria for consideration usually center around need, academic or extra-curricular achievement, community service, or aspirations to pursue study in a particular career field.

| Albert L. Crayton Memorial Scholarship | This scholarship is in the memory of Albert L. Crayton, a Vietnam War veteran who suffered from PTSD as a result of his service in the United States Air Force. Albert felt those who were afflicted with trauma from their service time were unable to access necessary support needed to handle the transition from military life back into the community. He also felt that it was even more difficult to receive help if these supports were needed later in life, rather than right after discharge. This scholarship will go to an individual who desires a pursuit of change in the mental health community for those who have served our country, along with many others who suffer from mental health issues. | 1 | 1000 |
| AMS Bronco Pride Scholarship | Created for students who attended Austin Middle School for at least two years. The recipients must write an essay discussing the most important lesson that they learned from their time at AMS. Additionally, the recipients must have 95% or greater attendance during their senior year and hold a minimum cumulative average of 80% or above. | 2 | 1000 |
| Andrew Esparza Foundation Scholarship | This scholarship was created to honor and memorialize the life and legacy of Irving Police Officer Andrew Esparza. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit among all eligible applicants. Personal achievement, tenacity in the face of adversity, ambition, skill, charity, breadth and strength of character are example factors taken into consideration. | 1 | 1000 |
| Angel Flores Memorial Scholarship | This scholarship was established by Ingrid Rothe in memory of Angel Flores. Angel was just beginning high school when he was struck by a car. He loved life, his family, and school. He wanted to make his parents proud and set a good example for his sisters. The recipient of this scholarship must have participated in the ESL Program at Austin or Bowie Middle Schools, and written two essays: one describing how the program has helped them succeed and one about a hardship they have overcome. | 1 | 1500 |
| Angela Smyers Digital Learning Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a senior from any IISD high school, must have a minimum 2.75 overall GPA, and be pursuing a degree in a STEM-related field or technology. Angela Smyers is the epitome of a Teacher’s Teacher and a Coach’s Coach! After serving 37 years in Irving ISD, this scholarship will serve as a lasting tribute to her dedication and inspire future generations to follow in her footsteps. Angela goes above and beyond for teachers to ensure that students are prepared for success in each academic challenge they may encounter, and she recognizes technology is only as useful as the intention behind it. Building capacity in teachers is a personal objective of hers, and that capacity is exemplified when teachers come to her to continue to glean from her wealth of knowledge. | AVID Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has been in the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) system for at least three years. The student must have a record of leadership in AVID or in another school organization, and plan to attend a four-year college or university. | 1 | 1000 |
| B.I.G.D.O.G.S Organization Scholarship in Memory of Dalton Debrick | This scholarship was established in memory of Dalton Debrick by his family and the B.I.G. D.O.G.S. Youth Organization in 2015. Dalton was a 2014 graduate of Nimitz High School and was active in youth sports in the Irving community, including the B.I.G. D.O.G.S. Youth Organization, for over 13 years. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating Nimitz senior with at least four consecutive years in the city of Irving and/or YMCA Sports. The student must demonstrate academic success by holding a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have given back to the Irving community. | 1 | 1000 |
| Barbara Cardwell Future of Education Scholarship | Over forty-five plus years, Barbara Cardwell served Irving ISD faculty, staff, and students in a myriad of ways culminating in her 21 years of service as an IISD Board of Trustee, with the highest quality of education services for the students of Irving as her driving force. Mrs. Cardwell knew securing top-notch educators was necessary to achieve excellence. | Barton Alumni Scholarship | The Barton Alumni Scholarship was established by the faculty and staff of Barton Elementary School and is awarded to a graduating senior who attended Barton for more than three years. | 2 | 1250 |
| Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Irving Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to four graduating students who demonstrate good character, as evidenced in at least two letters of recommendation, and have participated in community activities or community service during high school. Additionally, the students must have participated in extra-curricular activities or organizations for at least two years. The students must plan to pursue higher education at a four-year college or university and major in a healthcare-related field, as well as ranking in the top 10% of their high school class. | 2 | 1500 |
| BCCPC Scholarship | Awarded to a graduating Barbara Cardwell Career Preparatory Center (BCCPC) senior who has attended BCCPC for at least two years, has a minimum GPA of 2.7, and an attendance record of at least 90%. | Bobby Lindamood Sr. Scholarship | Founded by Ed Farrow to honor the legacy of Bobby Lindamood Sr., this scholarship is a tribute to hard work, determination, and the belief that a strong foundation builds a bright future. | Bryan Esstman Memorial Scholarship | This scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Bryan Esstman, a beloved and respected long-time teacher at Lively Elementary School. | Cancer Fighters Scholarship in Memory of Jessica Robison Preston | Having too many family members and friends fight UGLY cancer, Renee Copeland and friends established this scholarship to honor Jessica Roanna Robison Preston, a loving wife and mother of two young children. Jessica passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, just two days shy of her 34th birthday. The Cancer Fighters Scholarship is awarded to a senior who has or has had an immediate family member battling cancer and who authors an essay detailing the effects the disease has had on their lives. | 1 | 1000 |
| Cancer Fighters Scholarship in Memory of Kelly Swihart | Having too many family members and friends fight UGLY cancer, Renee Copeland and friends established this scholarship to honor Kelly Ann Swihart, a beloved daughter, sister, and teacher's assistant for the Irving Independent School District. Kelly passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the age of thirty. | Christina Mainard Memorial Scholarship | In memory of all the love Christina showed all the children she met, the staff and students at TJ Lee established the Christina Mainard Memorial Scholarship. They were touched by Christina Mainard’s commitment to educating all students while a Special Education Life Teaching Assistant. She was driven to provide the best educational opportunities for her students. | Credit Union of Texas-Jerry Christian Spirit of Achievement Scholarship | The Credit Union of Texas - Jerry Christian Spirit of Achievement Scholarship was established to recognize retired IISD Assistant Superintendent Jerry Christian for his long-term service and dedication to Irving ISD, the Irving ISD Board of Trustees, and the Credit Union of Texas Board of Directors. | D-Up for Deebs in Memory of Dalton Debrick Scholarship | Established in 2015 in memory of Dalton “Deebs” Debrick, a 2014 Nimitz graduate who passed away his first week of college at Texas Tech, this scholarship is awarded to a male senior at Nimitz who intends to pursue a degree in Education to teach and coach. | Diana Stephens Memorial Scholarship | In honor of Mrs. Stephens’ 37 years of dedicated service as a librarian and teacher with Irving ISD, this scholarship recognizes a student whose life has been shaped by the power of reading. Mrs. Stephens served thousands of students throughout her career at Austin Middle School, De Zavala Middle School, the Administration Building, and ultimately at Cardwell Career Preparatory Center. A proud resident of Irving and a devoted mother, she created safe, welcoming spaces in every school she served. Mrs. Stephens had a gift for helping people find the book that spoke to them—a small moment that often sparked lasting change. More than an educator, Mrs. Stephens was a quiet advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through compassion, literacy, and unwavering support. This scholarship honors a student who loves to read and understands that books can open doors, heal, and inspire. | Dixon Proctor Dean Irving ISD Legacy Scholarship | The family legacy with Irving ISD began with Linda Dean and Vernon Proctor graduating from Irving High School in 1961. Linda Proctor began teaching in IISD in 1965. Her mother, Kathryn Dean soon became a teacher at Mac after her. Mary Kay Dixon began her teaching career in IISD in 1985. Many family members graduated from IISD as well others became teachers in IISD. This family truly invests in the education provided by Irving ISD as well as investing their lives in helping to educate others. | Espanita Homeowners Association Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a student who lives or has lived in the Espanita Addition and plans to attend community college, a four-year college, or an accredited technical school. | Eva Chaverria Scholarship | Eva attended Clifton, Johnston, Crockett, and was a proud Singley graduate of Class of 2021. She immediately started working at Farine after graduating as a PK aide and then as a library clerk until her passing. She was studying to be a teacher because she loved children with all her heart. She had a gift for making people laugh and lighting any room she walked into. Weeks before her life was taken in a tragic car accident, she had applied for a scholarship to further her education dream of becoming a teacher. Weeks after her passing family was notified that she had been the recipient. Family was also given her associate’s degree from north lake college. She would have transferred in the fall to UT Arlington. Eva’s dreams would no longer be fulfilled and that is why this scholarship should be awarded to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a teaching certificate or degree | 1 | 1000 |

| Fatema & Mustafa Biviji Scholarship | Awarded to a graduating senior from any Irving ISD high school who may be worthy but underserved. Recipient will be required to provide documentation of volunteer hours and community service, with preference given to those volunteering with Adopt a Spot activities. | 1 | 1000 |
| Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to 15 graduating female students pursuing a STEM career path. The students must have maintained a minimum GPA of 3.0, had a 95% attendance rate, and demonstrate extensive community service hours. | 15 | 1500 |
| Fernando Garcia Memorial Scholarship | The Fernando Garcia Memorial Scholarship was the first scholarship set up at Bowie Middle School. Fernando was killed in a drive-by shooting at his apartment complex. Fernando had made such strides from 6th grade to 8th grade; it was Bowie’s way of honoring his hard work. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior and former Bowie Middle School student who has overcome obstacles to achieve academic success. | 1 | 1000 |

| Fran Mathers' Hospitality Scholarship | When Fran Mathers bought Via Real Restaurant in 1986, she began a journey of redefining hospitality in Irving-Las Colinas. She fell in love with the hospitality industry and those who worked alongside her. | Friends of the ISO Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who has participated in a school or community-based arts organization or who has taken private lessons for a minimum of two years and plans to pursue a degree in the performing arts (music, dance, drama) at a college or university. | Gail Bernard: Once a Horned Frog Always a Horned Frog Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a student who attended Thomas Haley for at least three years, has a minimum GPA of 3.0, and has demonstrated economic, social, or academic hardship. | Gilbert Grove Lodge No. 263 P.H.A. in Honor of Michael T. Anderson Scholarship | This scholarship was created because it is important that students in low-income families have the same opportunity to better themselves. It is through this scholarship that students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds will be given the chance to develop their skills & gain an education so that they grow into a productive citizen and build a better life. This scholarship is awarded to students who have a community impact with at least 150 hours of community service. Students must also have a GPA of at least 3.0. | Gladys Valchar Opportunity Scholarship | To celebrate 45 years of working with Irving High School students as a student teacher, teacher, counselor and lead counselor, Gladys Valchar established her Opportunity Scholarship upon her retirement in 2013 to help IHS graduates continue their education and enhance their chances for a successful future. | Haim Vasquez Newcomer Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a student who was a Newcomer, with preference given to those who arrived in the country for two years or less when enrolled in high school. | Hank Kimbriel Memorial Scholarship | Established in 2015 in loving memory of Harry A. Kimbriel, III, devoted husband, friend and community leader, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who demonstrates leadership skills, preferably on the lacrosse field. However, consideration will be given to other sports, as well as leadership in school, church and the community. | Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau Hospitality Industry Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a course of study in the hospitality industry at an institution of higher learning and enter the hospitality field as a career. The hospitality industry includes programs of study such as: Food and Beverage/Restaurant Management, Hotel-Motel, Convention and Visitors Bureau, Tourism and Hospitality. | 1 | 1500 |
| Irving Elks Lodge Scholarship | For this scholarship, counselors from Irving, MacArthur, Nimitz, and Singley recommend one boy and one girl to attend monthly Elks Lodge meetings in September, October, November, and December. | Irving Friendship Foundation Scholarship | This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from any IISD high school in Irving, Texas. | Linda Strong Scholarship | Agnes Linda Strong known to friends and colleagues simply as Linda taught kindergarten for more than 30 years at A.S. Johnston Elementary School in Irving, Texas. She impacted the lives of more than 1500 kindergarten students. The parents of those students began this scholarship to honor her memory and recognize the exceptional teacher she was. This scholarship will be funded by those and other parents, the students who began their formal education in her class, and friends and family members of Linda. Linda grew up in Georgetown, Texas where she lived on the family farm growing cotton and raising cattle. She left Georgetown to attend Texas Women's University (known then as Texas State College for Women) in Denton, Texas. She received a degree in elementary education and a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education. She was married to Harlan DeVere Strong for 34 years. She and Harlan raised three sons, Michael, Jon, and David. Linda was recognized for her excellence in the classroom when her peers nominated her for Teacher of the Year at A. S. Johnson Elementary and the Irving Independent School District chose her at the Teacher of the Year in 1990. She explained her joy in teaching when she said, "Teaching never gets old. I chose to teach kindergarten because the early years of learning are extremely important. Knowing that I can and do make a difference in the lives of so many children each year is the intrinsic reward of teaching." After retiring from teaching, she eventually returned to Georgetown to care for her mother and sister until their deaths. Linda died in 2025 at the age of 92. | 1 | 1000 |

| Zadeh Family Scholarship in Memory of Irma Vega-Zadeh | Irma Vega-Zadeh was a teacher, administrator, and principal for 33-plus years. She began her career in Dallas ISD before moving to Irving ISD, where she was the first principal of Pierce Early Childhood School, later leading Keyes Elementary School. She loved teaching and would often refer to her students as her "kids". As a leader in education she achieved many goals in regards to elevating her students and ensuring their academic success. She was also an amazing mentor, and through her guidance and leadership she encouraged several students to become teachers, and several teachers to become administrators. Aside from being a stellar educator and change maker, she was most proud of the family she created with her husband and two children. She was the greatest mother, wife, friend, mentor and overall person who had the greatest zest for life.
