John plans to attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a minor in computer science. After that, he hopes to attend a graduate school for a Master’s degree in astronautics, as his passion in life is space. Throughout his time at college, John hopes to continue a research project he started in his junior year AP Research course at Singley Academy, researching mechanisms for water purification on Mars. At school, he’s active in the Homeland Security specialty, competing with his Explorers team and working to organize a campus disaster drill with his classmates. Outside of school, he is a part of the Civil Air Patrol, where he is currently focused on studying for a remote pilot’s certificate and eventually a private pilot’s license. A National AP Scholar and AP Capstone Diploma recipient, John excels academically, notably in all areas STEM, but he has a particular fondness for pure mathematics - a subject he wishes to study throughout his life, if only for the fun of it. He draws inspiration from people who have worked for and in space, especially from past and present cosmonauts and astronauts who have paved the way for space exploration today. In the future, he hopes to follow in their footsteps and become an astronaut to achieve his dreams of space colonization by putting humans comfortably on Mars and planets beyond.
